What the IPP offers

As an IPP PhD student, you will work in one of the research institutions participating in the programme and you will have access to modern research facilties. You will also receive a broad range of support including supervision, training, career development opportunities, a strong and lively community and a dedicated IPP Office. Find out more below, and see our Virtual IMB Tour.

As an IPP student, you will conduct exciting research within the lab of one of our participating groups and will be supervised by the group leader directly or a senior lab member.
Additionally, you agree with your group leader on a Thesis Advisory Committee of leading scientists who support and advise you and your research project regularly during your entire PhD.

All PhD projects in the IPP are fully funded.

You will be part of a big community of about 200 doctoral students from more than 40 different countries, who regularly meet during our networking events like the IPP retreat or the IPP symposium to discuss their research and experiences as IPP students.

The IPP coordinators manage the day-to-day business of the IPP. They assist you with problems during enrolment or when preparing for your thesis defense. Furthermore, they keep track of your TAC meetings and credit points and always have an open ear for issues you encounter in regards of supervision, mental health, career planning or training you would like to receive. They also organise all the great training and networking opportunities in the IPP.

Annually, the IPP student community elects a group of IPP representatives during one of the bi-annual IPP student general assemblies. The IPP representatives are in close contact with the IPP coordinators and communicate issues and possible improvements of the IPP. This way we try to constantly improve the IPP. As an IPP representative, you also have the chance to organise seminars, career events, the annual IPP student retreat and other social events.

As an IPP student you have access to the IMB Core Facilities at IMB employee rates. The IMB Core Facilites provide you with the additional expertise and specialised equipment you need in order to drive your research project forward.

As an IPP PhD Student you can join IMB's Mentoring Programme for Junior Researchers, which offers guided mentoring and career development opportunities. You can choose an internal or external professional working in academia or industry. With your mentor, you will have focused discussions about your career path options and how to realise your full potential. Further, you can participate in career mentoring sessions with invited speakers who are leaders in their fields in academia or in R&D in industry.
